Simultaneous interpreting

The interpreter sits in a soundproof booth and listens to the speaker through headphones. The interpreting, which occurs almost at the same time – (i.e. simultaneously) -, is transmitted by microphone and can be heard by the conference participants with headphones.

This type of interpreting requires utmost concentration and an elevated level of professional competence. Due to the high level of exertion, simultaneous interpreters work in teams of at least two, alternating after a certain period of time.

The advantage of simultaneous interpreting is that almost any number of languages can be interpreted into at the same time, with almost no lapse in between.
